Director of Surgical Services Position Overview

The Director of Surgical Services at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center reports to the hospital's VP of Nursing and has 24-hour responsibility for patient care within the hospital and is clinically, administratively, and fiscally accountable for assigned patient care areas. The Director assures that the mission, goals, and philosophy of the hospital and nursing service are consistently implemented within his/her scope of responsibility. The Director facilitates the Asante vision and values by setting professional standards in an open, creative, accountable, non-threatening and supportive environment. This includes empowerment of staff, providing resources and commitment to trust and respect for all.

As the Director of Surgical Services at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center you will have the opportunity to:

Actively participates in achieving hospital goals and mission statement

Develop appropriate capital and operational budgets for given departments

Act as mentor/coach for the surgical leadership team assisting them to develop their leadership skills

Partner with our medical staff to advance the care of surgical patients

Bachelors of Science in Nursing(BSN) or bachelors degree in related field required

MSN or Master's degree in related field preferred


3 years current management/administrative experience in Surgical Services required

Clinical competency with a minimum 3 years experience in Surgical Services required

Demonstrated managerial and leadership attributes/experience required

Proven success in program development and implementation required


Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by Oregon State board of Nursing required

Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association preferred

Required Skills

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and implement change from concept to actualization

Demonstrated ability to use performance improvement techniques, such as Lean and/or Six Sigma, to drive operational improvement

Demonstrated ability to set vision and direction and engage a team in goal attainment

Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written communications

Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize data in decision making process

Demonstrated ability to analyze and act upon department financial data, develop operational and capital budgets and work collaboratively with Materials Management/Supply chain leaders on strategic planning for surgical services equipment and supplies
