Perioperative Inventory Specialist Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Perioperative Inventory Specialist coordinates with assigned department to maintain the supply levels, ensure needed supplies are readily available, and to manage costs of operations. The Perioperative Inventory Specialist also participates in researching, interviewing and negotiating with suppliers to obtain prices and specifications; compiles information to request supplies, materials, and equipment and completes requisitions; works closely with physicians, clinical staff, distribution and purchasing to standardize and improve the products as appropriate; and assists in the analysis of materials utilization costs and annual budgeting process. Duties may also include evaluating vendors and authorizing requests within organizational policy; and tracking orders and maintaining ordering records and systems.

As a Perioperative Inventory Specialist at Asante, you will have the opportunity to:

Maintain records of supplies for various types of materials, supplies and equipment

Work directly with purchasing to collect information on pricing and specifications

Participate in negotiations with suppliers regarding delivery requirements, pricing, and specifications

Monitor and evaluate supply levels and ensure that department needs regarding supply levels are met and coordinate with internal and external staff related to supply needs

Work directly with staff and managers to research and respond to questions, concerns and requests regarding supplies

Assist with budgeting and financial analysis of material and supply costs

Manage vendor agreements and product requests

Investigate budgetary variances utilizing usage and case data be able to explain budgetary variances within area of responsibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Some college or specialized education providing knowledge of business practices, the healthcare environment, medical terminology or related subjects is required

Associates degree in health or business related field, preferred

Experience

A minimum of 2 years of experience in surgical/perioperative services, cath lab materials management, or sterile processing area which provides knowledge of supplies and equipment utilized within the surgical services function is required

Previous purchasing experience, preferred

Intermediate level experience with Microsoft office applications such as Excel or Word, preferred

Materials Management system experience, preferred
