Patient Access Representative - Outpatient Position Overview
At Asante, the Patient Access Representative Outpatient independently provides a complete registration for outpatient procedures. This position ensures that accurate information is collected and that patients are aware of their rights. This position also creates calculation statements, collects copayments, estimates patient's portions and negotiates patient payment amounts as appropriate.
As a Patient Access Representative at Asante, you will have the opportunity to:
Ensure accurate and timely billing and verify insurance eligibility from patient's insurance card or through the use of verification software or insurance company web sites.
Estimate patient's portion of the charges and add or review all notes on the account and attempt to collect the amount owed.
Use appropriate software/programs to determine eligibility for the Oregon Health Plan and Financial Assistance programs with uninsured and underinsured patients. Provide applications for these programs as well as education on the completion and submission of these forms.
Make appropriate referrals for patients requiring further assistance.
Follow department procedures regarding ABN's, waivers, authorizations, specific insurance requirements and procedures.
Meet department productivity standards of registered accounts.
For this position, a schedule is provided in advance, however each schedule as it comes out will vary based on the need for coverage. Training will be close to full-time hours for the first few weeks. In Outpatient Patient Registration, shifts can start as early as 5:00am or 6:00am - and some shift may end as late at 8:00pm. There may be some shifts on a weekend (covered on a rotational basis).
For this on-call position, an extra 15% is paid on top of the hourly wage. On-call employees then have the opportunity to move into full or part-time positions as those become available.
Please Note: For applicants that do not meet the requirements as noted below, they may be considered for the Patient Access Assistant position - with this position being a promotional opportunity once requirements and competencies are met.
Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
6-12 months medical office or related customer service experience required. Knowledge of CPT / ICD-9 codes and insurance/payor requirements also required. Familiarity with insurance requirements and guidelines preferred.
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.
Ability to understand and solve complex problems dealing with governmental entitlement programs, commercial insurance requirements, contractual obligations, and reporting requirements.
Understand the charging structure and creation of the midnight census.
Demonstrated proficiency using computers, strong verbal communication skills, and an understanding of the current trends in insurance billing and other third party reimbursement issues.
Ability to maintain a calm and effectual demeanor during stressful and crisis situations.
Proficiency in understanding legal requirements.
Ability to prioritize work ensuring the safety of the client and that work is completed in a timely manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills to represent the department to the public, as well as with our other internal and external customers.
Demonstrated motivational skills.
