PLEASE NOTE: This is a remote/work from home position - however, due to our pay practices, qualified candidates MUST reside within one of the following states: OR, WA, CA, ID, NV, UT, CO, AZ, NM, OK, TX, KY, TN, GA, NC, FL, ME, IA, IL, MI, AK and MT. While candidates need to live or relocate to one of the aforementioned states, working remotely will require reliable broadband internet and personal cell phone service. Remote work may include working day-to-day operations during Pacific Standard business hours or online training.

Position Summary

The Coding Specialist is primarily responsible for the coding and abstracting of all records including inpatient, ambulatory surgery, and emergency room, pertaining to patient's occasion of service. Standardized coding and classification systems, minimum data sets, data definitions and terminology will be utilized to ensure data is uniformly defined, collected, and verified. In this role, the Coding Specialist also provides assistance to authorized users to furnish aggregate data and information needed for education, statistical, managerial, reimbursement and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position, is required

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of coding experience in an acute care setting to include at least one year in inpatient coding, is required
  • 3-5 years inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting, preferably in facilities with complex, multiple specialty departments, is preferred

Certifications

One of the following is required:

  • CCS: Certified Coding Specialist
  • RHIT: Registered Health Information Technician
