PLEASE NOTE: This is a remote position, however due to our pay practices, qualified candidates MUST reside within one of the following states: OR, WA, CA, NV, CO, AZ, ID, KY, TN, GA, NC, OK, TX, MA, PA, FL, ME, ND, MO, and IL. While candidates need to live or relocate to one of the aforementioned states, working remotely will require reliable broadband internet and personal cell phone service. Remote work may include working day-to-day operations during Pacific Standard business hours or online training.


For this role, candidates at either the Coding Associate 1 or Coding Associate 2 level will be considered. Details on qualifications for both levels noted below. Starting wage is based on level of position, qualifications, and years of relevant experience. The starting range for the Coding Associate 1 level is $20.13 and up (with $25.16 as the mid-range). For the Coding Associate 2 - it's $21.44 and up (with $26.80 as the mid-range).

Coding Associate 2 - Position Overview

The Coding Associate 2 is primarily responsible for the coding and abstracting of ancillary/outpatient records including ambulatory surgery and emergency room pertaining to patient's occasion of service. Standardized coding and classification systems, minimum data sets, data definitions and terminology will be utilized to ensure data is uniformly defined, collected, and verified. Also provides assistance to authorized users to furnish aggregate data and information needed for education, statistical, managerial, reimbursement and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
  • Minimum 1 year of ancillary/outpatient coding - providing the ability to code ambulatory surgery, observation or ED, including CPT coding
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA) by AHIMA - OR - Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by AAPC is required upon start
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - OR - Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), preferred

Coding Associate 1 - Position Overview

The Coding Associate 1 is primarily responsible for the coding and abstracting of ancillary/outpatient records pertaining to patient's occasion of service. Standardized coding and classification systems, minimum data sets, data definitions and terminology will be utilized to ensure data is uniformly defined, collected, and verified. The Coding Associate also provides assistance to authorized users to furnish aggregate data and information needed for education, statistical, managerial, reimbursement and performance improvement activities.

This position is 100% Outpatient diagnostic coding (diagnostic ICD-10 coding) to include Imaging, Lab, Wound Care, and other outpatient services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and various medical specialties required
  • Previous ICD-9-CM and/or CPT coding experience is required, or - in lieu of previous coding experience, candidates who have completed (or are currently enrolled in) a coding certification program MAY be considered. The program must be from either the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Some previous coding experience in a medical environment, preferred
  • Ability to code ancillary/outpatient, ambulatory surgery, or emergency room E/M professional fee levels accounts and/or CPT coding, preferred
  • Previous experience operating computerized encoder software, preferred
  • Certified Coding Associate - OR - Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), preferred

Please Note: If no certification upon hire, will be required to obtain a certification within one year of hire date.
