The starting range is $18.90 and up (increase based on qualifications and years of relevant experience).

As a Mental Health Assistant 1/CNA2 for the BHU and/or PCU at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to earn the following shift differentials:

  • $1.21 extra per hour for hours worked between 3:00pm-11:00pm
  • $2.05 extra per hour for hours worked between 11:00pm-7:00am
  • $1.05 extra per hour for hours worked on weekend shifts

The Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center is the only inpatient facility of its kind serving a nine-county region in Southern Oregon and Northern California and advances Asante's vision to significantly improve the patient experience for people facing a mental health crisis. That vision included adopting a trauma-informed approach to mental health care called The Sanctuary Model, as well as creating a resiliency support program called Team CARE Response for employees. The unit was recently expanded to accommodate more inpatients and offers 24 rooms, each with a garden view. In addition, renovations were made to the Psychiatric Care Unit (PCU) housed in the Emergency Department that offers additional psychiatric beds.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Assistant-1/CNA2 for Asante assists in maintaining, restoring, and promoting patient's health through the application of psychiatric-mental health nursing principles as directed by a registered nurse (RN).

As a Mental Health Assistant for the BHU/PCU at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Utilize the Nursing Process to identify and resolve problems within the scope of practice including functioning within the nursing process by collecting data, making observations, and reporting conditions/changes to the RN based on symptoms, psychosocial, and age specific needs; providing input into the multidisciplinary treatment plans for patients and implements care based on these plans; documenting patient's response to nursing care and significant events consistent with established charting standards; and assisting in facilitating psychoeducational and recreational groups.
  • Demonstrate professional accountability in Clinical Practice such as demonstrating excellence in clinical practice through proactive, self-directive behavior using creative thinking skills; striving to improve practice through participation in educational activities, staff meetings, and unit activities; functioning as a positive role model and utilizing the expertise of colleagues to maintain a cohesive work team; using established lines of communication for problems and interpersonal conflict management; and providing input for development of unit goals, objectives and incorporates them into clinical practice.
  • Anticipate and respond effectively to critical/emergent situations such as intervening in critical and/or life threatening situations effectively and coordinating resources for an effective response; following protocols in emergent situations per hospital policy/procedures; promoting and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment by monitoring the unit environment and communicating effectively with team members; and participating in debriefing post emergency situations per policy/procedure.

Qualifications

  • CNA2: Acute Care Certified by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) required upon start
  • BLS: Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider certified through the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon start
  • NCPT: Nationally Certified Psychiatric Technician, preferred
