Position Summary

The Charge Capture Specialist is primarily responsible for unit and area specific revenue capture and auditing of clinical services / procedures within revenue producing departments throughout the system. The Charge Capture Specialist serves as a communication link between staff, physicians, charge nurse, Business Office, revenue cycle director and other reimbursement specialists in discussing issues, recommendations, solutions and answering questions related to patient charges, auditing, and charge master.

The Charge Capture Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting with unit and area specific revenue capture and auditing of clinical services / procedures within revenue producing departments throughout the system.

As a Charge Capture Specialist for the Surgery Department - you will have the opportunity to:

• Respond and answer Surgical Services billing questions, or refer to appropriate individual or department, and provide constructive communication to Surgical Services staff and Business Office
• Work closely with Surgery Department Supervisors, Managers, and Director advising of pertinent information regarding to revenue management and provide feedback to facilitate rules-based charging and billing
• Perform auditing/editing responsibilities that requires working closely with staff and hospital departments to support and ensure quality standards are met within the department, resulting in positive outcomes for all customers
• Conduct audit and correct all surgery, SSU, PACU, Endoscopy, Pain Clinic and Anesthesia and enter all appropriate charge items into the EMR, or various programs used for auditing, reporting, and revenue capture
• Review and monitor web information regarding surgical services, reimbursement, and revenue management
• Work closely with the Surgical System Coordinator and the Supplies Coordinating Clerk to insure accurate pricing

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required

Required Experience for the Charge Capture Specialist

• 2 years' health care or health care-related financial experience providing knowledge of accounting, coding or other healthcare financial-related experience
• Current working knowledge of medical procedures and patient care items

Required Experience for the Charge Capture Assistant

• Prior experience in the health care or health care-related industry providing knowledge of processes such as coding, billing, charging, insurance, and/or patient registration.
  

Preferred Certifications

• CCS: Certified Coding Specialist
• RHIT: Registered Health Information Technician
• CPC: Certified Professional Coder
