Position Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Radiation Physics, the Staff Radiation Physicist will perform Medical Physics quality assurance, calibration and consultation tasks, as well as contribute to the production of dosimetric treatment plans as prescribed and supervised by the Radiation Oncologist. It is expected that the Staff Physicist will contribute to Radiation Oncology program development and implementation as needed to bring new radiation oncology treatment techniques and modalities into our clinical practice.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree or PhD in medical physics, or the equivalent with the appropriate clinical training, is required.

Required Experience / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
  • Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
  • Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices, and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. These tools include computers as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities.
  • A high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently, but in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist and Supervisor, Radiation Physics.
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as well as current rules and regulations of the State of Oregon.
  • Ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans as defined by relevant treatment protocols.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to prioritize competing demands; and the ability to focus in a distracting environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, correspondence, memorandums, and medical records.

Preferred Experience / Skills / Abilities

  • 2 years professional experience performing Radiation Oncology treatment planning.
  • Ability to manage Varian TrueBeam, Elektra Infinity, and Radiaxact QA.
  • Exposure to RayStation treatment planning software and Mosaiq record and verify systems.
  • Experience planning SBRT, VMAT and TomoTherapy treatment planning & administration.
  • Specialized training in dosimetric techniques and physics of treatment planning and calibration of Linacs, including TomoTherapy.
  • Strong computer skills at a user level as well as an aptitude for learning new computer software and systems including treatment planning, secondary dose calculation, image fusion/contouring, quality assurance packages and record and verify systems, as commonly encountered in Radiation Oncology practice.

Preferred Certifications

  • MHP: Medical Health Physics Certification.
  • MP: Medical Physics Certification.
  • ABR (American Board of Radiology) or equivalent certification and participation in MOC (maintenance of certification), if applicable.
