Phlebotomist - Inpatient

Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.900000 | Full Time | 1st Shift - Days

PLEASE NOTE: Open availability is required for all On-Call openings. The candidate selected will need to work the first 4-6 weeks full-time for training on all shifts.

Shifts: Possible Shifts for ARRMC inpatient phlebotomy positions are as follows. Hours may be set but days of the week will need to be flexible. Typical schedules for full-time employees are four, 10 hour shifts and working either every other or every third weekend.

  • 1st Shit - 3:00am to 1:30pm
  • 2nd Shift - 1:00pm to 11:30pm
  • 3rd Shift - 9:00pm to 7:30am


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist will inspire confidence in the overall patient and staff experience by utilizing proper prioritization procedures and coordinating the collection of all phlebotomy specimens with co-workers. The Phlebotomist must consistently provide phlebotomy skills appropriate to the age and condition of the patient to minimize redraws (i.e., proper amounts, correct samples) and must strictly adhere to patient identification protocols as specified by regulatory requirements. This includes demonstrating knowledge of all patient safety precautions - such as isolations and safety devices.

As a Phlebotomist in the inpatient department at RRMC, you will:

  • Perform 10 to 12 draws an hour after initial training.
  • Work in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Nursery as needed.
  • Work directly with patients and continually improve the patient experience.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize our workflow.
  • Utilize proper prioritization procedures by coordinating the collection of all specimens with co-workers.
  • Demonstrate productivity in patient care by consistently applying phlebotomy skills, with accuracy, to a diverse patient population.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required.
  • If being hired directly after successful completion of a certified phlebotomy program, the requirement for experience below may be waived.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience or equivalent experience in a healthcare related field.
  • Experience requirement may be waived after successful completion and attainment of a Certificate of Completion from a Certified Phlebotomy Education program approved by Asante Laboratory Leadership.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the ability to frequently and repetitively lift, push, pull, carry, and handle items up to 50 pounds as a regular and vital part of the job.
