POSITION SUMMARY

The Endoscopy Tech assists the physician in the performance of therapeutic and diagnostic Endoscopic procedures and is also responsible for the equipment, preparation of the patient prior to the procedure, assisting in the monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and evaluation of the patient prior to the transfer to the recovery area.

As an Endoscopy Tech you will have the opportunity to:
  • Perform endoscopic therapeutic and diagnostic procedures according to departmental standards and protocols
  • Assist the physicians with the procedure, collecting specimens and processing according to policy
  • Ensure that the equipment is set-up correctly and is functioning properly before procedure begins and trouble shoot problems effectively during the procedure if needed
  • Ensure that the equipment is cleaned and reprocessed according to departmental standards
  • Maintain skills to provide a quality service and keep current with the industry
  • Communicate pertinent information concerning the procedure to the appropriate staff and physician

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent, as well as at least 6 months of medical coursework in a compatible field (such as respiratory therapy, CNA, LPN, etc.) is required
Experience
  • Minimum two years of previous experience in health care (CNA, EMT, Medical Assistant, Phleb, Surgical Aide, Surgery Tech, Anesthesia tech, or equivalent) is required
  • Experience with electronic medical records, or recent computer coursework, is required
Licensure/Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon start
Preferred Certifications
  • CNA: Certified Nursing Assistant certified by the Oregon State Board of Nursing
  • SGNA: Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Certification
Other Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge, skill and ability in positioning sedated patients
  • Knowledge, skill and ability in decontamination AND disinfection
  • Demonstrated ability to function with aseptic knowledge
  • Ability to speak, read, write legibly, follow verbal or written instructions and perform basic math
  • Computer proficiency (word spreadsheet, data base, e-mail and Epic)
