Position Summary

The Respiratory Care ABG Specialist is an Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner that has acquired additional credentialing and competencies as outlined by Asante Respiratory leadership. Respiratory Care Practitioners interview, examine, and care for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders using their knowledge of scientific principles, underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology with their knowledge of biomedical engineering and technology to assess, educate and treat patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.

This role requires supervising the clinical and technical performance of respiratory care staff throughout their specialty area of ABG Specialist in collaboration with the Respiratory Care Supervisor and Manager; establishing clinical and technical standards in their specialty area of practice for inpatient and acute care in conjunction Respiratory Leadership at AACH and ARRMC and appropriate Medical Director; participating in training, evaluating, and counseling of respiratory care practitioners in their specialty area of focus; and applying management and leadership principles consistent with Asante guiding values to ensure excellent service is provided to all patients and customers of the Respiratory Care department.

The Respiratory Care ABG Specialist will split their time between clinical work one week and Arterial Blood Gas responsibilities the next week - to include billing, compliance, calibrations and quality assurance.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care required


  • Prior advanced respiratory care experience demonstrating competencies in all modalities of acute care respiratory therapy required


  • RRT: Current or former Registered Respiratory Therapist through NBRC required
  • RT-P: Respiratory Therapist Permanent by the Oregon Respiratory Therapy Licensing Board required
  • BLS: Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider certified by American Heart Association (AHA) required upon start
