Additional Position Details:

Due to the nature of the work - this position does require the flexibility to work variable hours and variable days - to include day, evening, weekend and holidays hours.

Salary: Starting at $17.74 an hour and up (based on years of relevant experience). Plus, you will earn extra shift differentials for swing, night, and weekend hours:

• $1.27 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
• $2.15 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
• $1.10 extra for working weekends

Asante is currently offering a $750 sign on bonus upon hire and a $750 retention bonus after 6 months for any qualified external candidate who applies and is hired into a part-time or full-time position. Bonus payment amounts are prorated based on FTE accepted.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant for Asante Ashland Community Hospital orders, draws, receives and processes laboratory specimens and is responsible for specimen accuracy and integrity in all parts of pre-analytical specimen handling. This role requires using independent judgment in following established venipuncture procedures and working under general supervision as well as the ability to inspire confidence in and communicate effectively with patients and family, registration staff, unit secretaries, healthcare providers & visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required

Experience

• 1 year of laboratory experience, or equivalent experience in a healthcare related field is required
• 1-2 years phlebotomy experience preferably in a Clinical Laboratory or hospital setting, preferred
• Experience with special drawing procedures (babies, therapeutic phlebotomies, combative patients, etc.), preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory specimen requirements, preferred

Certifications/ Licensures

• Possession of a valid Driver's License with proof of safe driving record for the past ten years and proof of insurance may be required
  

While not required, the following are preferred:

• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology
• Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)
